On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me….incredible foodie gifts from Niagara. I just don’t know where to tell him to start because there is so much to do in Niagara and I want to do it all! On my list would be a class at The Good Earth Cooking School http://goodearthfoodandwine.com. The Good Earth is located in Beamsville and has a lovely bistro that is open year round. With guest chefs such as Ross Midgley of Windows by Jamie Kennedy and Tony de Luca from Niagara College and class names such as Pulp Fiction and Mex in the City they have my attention.
My true love could also give me the gift of reservations by way of a gift certificate to one of our many fine restaurant partners. Carlos Cantina http://www.carloscantina.com is located on St. Paul Street and offers a taste of Mexican comfort food. Home to a stellar, fresh margarita and outstanding burritos, mole and sopas, these friendly folks are always happy to say Hola to all who come through the front door.
Wellington Court http://www.wellington-court.com/page/home is nice for a special evening out or just a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It is chic, intimate and delectable. S’mores deconstructed is on my wish list this Christmas.
Still in downtown St Catharines on St Paul there are two more gems. Pow Wow http://www.powwowrestaurant.com is like going home to an old friend. A few things have changed but you can always count on them to not completely change who they are. Classics like Komodo Dragon and Angry Chicken pasta are joined by new friends the Blue Elephant burger and Forager’s salad. The Merchant Ale House https://www.facebook.com/themerchantalehouse just a short walk down St Paul is a restaurant and brew pub that makes much of their food fresh and in house. They offer dishes such as Pulled Pork Avocado Egg Rolls and a 7 for 7 menu.
Now if my true love wants to give me something sweet he can stop by and visit Beth at Sweetie Pie’s http://spbakery.ca for a ginger cookie sandwich at the St Catharines market http://www.stcatharines.ca/en/experiencein/StCatharinesFarmersMarket.asp or Chocolates Etc. on Welland Ave http://choco-locate.com/shops/chocolate-etc/ where I hear there is a a frothy cappuccino to be savoured and enjoyed with chocolates.
For something to do over the long cold Niagara winter he might give me tickets to something we could enjoy together. In January there is the Icewine Festival http://www.niagarawinefestival.com with its’ gala, discovery passes and outdoor festivals in 20 Valley and Niagara on the Lake. In February there is the Days of Wine and Chocolate http://wineriesofniagaraonthelake.com/days-of-wine-and-chocolate In late February early March we have Cuvee http://cuvee.ca with its glamour and glitz. It is a celebration of Ontario wine making. If your true love still isn’t sure what to do in Niagara, a good spot to find out what is happening around Niagara this year is Gathering Niagara http://gatheringniagara.com
We’ll be at the latest Gathering Niagara Event on Sunday, December 15th, 2013 at Kristlemas Market at Stratus vineyards http://www.stratuswines.com with yes of course Niagara Culinary Tours www.niagaraculinarytours.com gift certificates!!! Our third day of Foodie Christmas would not be complete without the gift of a food tour! Perhaps your true love will be kind enough to lavish you with this joyful, yummy and fun filled gift.
