The Twelve Days of Foodie Christmas, Day Two

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…cheese because come on now, I need something to go with my cocktails.  A trip to Stratford would find one of my favourite dairies  http://www.monfortedairy.com. Out for the holidays is Formidable a goat’s cheese mixed with dark chocolate. Montforte can also be found in Toronto at 125 Jefferson Ave.  Current info is on their Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/MonforteOnJeffersonImage

If my true love was feeling generous they could order some cheese from Cowgirl Creamery http://www.cowgirlcreamery.com in Point Reyes outside of San Francisco. Founded by two life long friends an artisan creamery with legendary cheeses…..okay at least legendary in my mind…..Red Hawk, Devil’s Gulch and Mt. Tam to name a few. There is now a cook book from Sue and Peggy called Cowgirl Creamery Cooks. Cowgirl Creamery…..such as great name…. have an online cheese club starting at $199 for three months.  Now that’s a club I wouldn’t mind belonging to!

ImageIf you want to shop closer to home there are some excellent options.  Located in Grand Oak Culinary market http://www.grandoakculinary.ca is Grand Fromage with a nice selection of cheese. On our last trip they just had an arrival from Britain for the holidays.  In Jordan we have Upper Canada Cheese http://www.uppercanadacheese.com which is home to Niagara Gold, Guernsey Girl and Comfort Cream. If you are out shopping and need cheese and fresh produce the St Catharines Market should be on your list.  http://www.stcatharines.ca/en/experiencein/StCatharinesFarmersMarket.asp  Another nearby delicacy that isn’t cheese but goes very well with it is Pingue prosciuttio.http://www.pingueprosciutto.com/ It is readily available at Commissos in Niagara Falls.

If you don’t care to leave home there is a cheese kit found in a little shop on Etsy at Urban Cheese Craft https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/62422788/deluxe-diy-cheese-kit-make-mozzarella?ref=listing-shop-header-2 This deluxe kit makes 30 batches of mozarella, ricotta, chevre, paneer and queso blanco. A bargain at $54.83.  It’s only day two but I can’t wait to see what my true love brings me tomorrow.  Oh how I hope he is reading this!
